Job Description

About the Role: 

We are offering a rare opportunity for an experienced Legal Counsel to join our team in a part-time capacity.

As a Legal Counsel, you’ll find a supportive environment backed by strong leadership. Reporting to the Corporate Secretary and Head of Legal, your role will involve critical support across the entire ACS business.

Responsibilities: 

In this varied role, you will be primarily responsible for the following:

  • Contract Review, Drafting, and Negotiations: Thoroughly review, draft, and negotiate contracts to ensure legal compliance and protect our interests, whilst taking a commercial and pragmatic approach.
     
  • Legal Research and Advice: Provide legal research and expert advice to internal stakeholders, guiding them through complex legal matters.
     
  • Procurement and Vendor Support: Assist with procurement processes and vendor management, ensuring legal compliance and risk mitigation.
     
  • Intellectual Property (IP) Protection: Offer IP support to safeguard technological innovations and proprietary assets.
     
  • Internal Policy Development: Contribute to the development of internal policies, ensuring alignment with legal requirements.
     
  • General corporate advisory and ad-hoc legal support: Provide legal support to the organisation and Head of Legal on a range of matters including employment and HR, governance and risk,  helping to navigate legal complexities.

Desired Skills and Experience

Requirements: 

To thrive in this role, you should possess the following qualifications and skills:

  • Experience: 5–7 years as a practicing lawyer with at least 2 years in-house experience, with a focus on commercial contracts, intellectual property, and general corporate advisory.
  • Drafting Skills: Strong experience in drafting legal documents, contract review, and effective negotiation.
  • Analytical Abilities: Capable of assessing complex legal issues and providing sound recommendations.
  • Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, enabling effective collaboration with both internal and external stakeholders.
  • Independence and Teamwork: Comfortable working independently while also contributing as a valuable team member.
